A sail in sight was signalled from Mount Victoria yesterday, and from reports received from Captains Macfarlane, of the s.s. Taupo, and Paton, of the brig Eobin Hood, both saw a barque flight) on the starboard tack, standing towards Cloudy Bay. Evidently bound through the Strait. ..... The Union Company's new and powerful s.s. Taupo, Captain Macfarlane, made fast alongside the wharf at 10 a.m. yesterday. She left Onehnnga at 11.40 a.m. of the 2nd, and cleared the Heads shortly before 1 p.m., with a fresh favorable breeze and thick weather. Proceeded under easy steam, and arrived off New Plymouth at 5.30 a.m. on 3rd ; landed passengers and cargo, and left again at 7.40 a.m, arriving off Nelson at 8.15 p.m., and alongside the wharf at 10 p.m., light variable winds with considerable head sea having been experienced. While on the slip Bhe received a thorough scraping and cleaning, and bottom coated with. Peacock's patent composition. Her new four-bladed propeller was shipped.
