Star of the South last evening towed in the ship Herschel, which had been off the Heads nearly a couple of days. During the voyage of the vessel two children and one old man died from natural causes. She arrives with a clean bill of health. The Herschel has some 200 tons of cargo for this port. Eighty-five of her passengers are Italians. The passage occupied 115 days, accounted for by her having encountered contrary winds. She sailed from Hamburg, and has a large number of Government immigrants. The Herschel la an iron ship of about 800 tons register. The s.s. Napier arrived last night from Foxton. She crossed the Manawatu bar at noon yesterday.Captain Butt reports having spoke the brigantine Enterprise inside Jackson’s Head on Thursday morning. ITie Napier, on her upward trip, had to steam through Tory Channel, in consequence of the strong wind in the Strait. She brings nine passengers.

The ketch Jane Elkin left Pelorus Sound on Friday morning, and anchored in Wellington harbor at 7 p.m. the same day.
