Stocks continue heavy, and as over 1200 tons have come into port per Kinfauns Castle, there must be some time elapse, with increasing consumption, before any improvement in quotations can be looked for. Eecent advices announce a considerable rise in the value of sperm candles in Melbourne, but this market has not as yet'been affected by it. In colonial butter, stocks of' cured are becoming low;
prices for export are unaltered, the demand being . mostly for local consumption; quotations for prime ''-" cure in kegs rule from lid. to 13d. per lb. Cheese is In fair demand at lid. for good Canterbury maker Flour, owing to large_stocks, moves off slowly at £llss. to £lllos. per ton for. sacks,of Canterbury . and .Oamaru mills,' with some slight'lndications of improved value.
