SUPREME COURT.

OKI M INAL SITTINGS. Tuesday, October 5. (Before his Honor the Chief Justice and Juries of Twelve.) The Court sat at 10 a.m. Mr. Izard appeared as Crown Prosecutor. SENTENCES. Charles Scott, convicted the previous day of having stolen £2l 10s. from a dwellinghouse, was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment, with hard labor. David Pickley, convicted on his own confession of burglary, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, Ilia Honor taking previous good character of prisoner into consideration. Thomas Koche, who had pleaded guilty to an information charging him with having obtained from Mr. W. T. L. Travers a sum of £SO by means of a false pretence, was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment,with hard labor, his Honor dealing leniently with prisoner because it was his first offence, and because the circumstances of the case showed that ho was not one of the criminal class who get a living by crime. PERJURY. Mr. Buckley, who had been retained for the defence of Eliza Smith, charged with perjury, applied that the case might bo postponed till next day, as a material witness had not arrived, and because he (the learned counsel) desired time to examine the indictment. He stated an adjournment was necessary for the purposes of defence. After a few remarks from Mr. Allan, who prosecutes, His Honor acceded to the application, and the hearing of the case was postponed till next day. ASSAULT AND BOBBERY. Akuhata, a Maori, was charged with having at the Hutt, on 25th August, 1875, assaulted and robbed of £2 2s. one Pone te Wnkatena. Prisoner pleaded not guilty, and was defended by Mr. Allan. Mr. E. Baker was sworn as interpreter. Jury.—Messrs. Freeman (foreman), John Evans, H. Owen, J. P. Paul, Bewick, Charles Gamble, James Dunn, S. Death, Phillips, James Hooper, Andrew, Orr, and Whithead. Prisoner was convicted, and remanded for sentence. The Court then [adjourned till next day at 10 a.m.
