RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

Friday, September 24. (Before J. C. Crawford, Esq., 11. M.) Henry Hilcli, on a charge of drunkenness, was fined 55., or twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. George Hurley, convicted of being drunk and disorderly, was fined 10s., or forty-eight hours' impriaomont. BURG I. ARY. David Puckley, charged with this offence on the information of William Hillier, was remanded till Monday next. DESERTION. Edward Beasley and John Wilson, seamen belonging to the Sarah Pile, were charged by Captain Wynd with being absent from the vessel without leave. The Bench ordered the men to bo sent on board. MALICIOUS INJURY. George Hai'rison was charged with having broken a pane of glass at the Pier Hotel. The barman of the hotel deposed that he refused to supply tho defendant with any more drink, as he appeared at the time to have had quite enough, whereupon the prisoner got excited, and threw his boot through the window. The amount of the damage was not stated, and as the prisoner offered to pay for the glass, the case waa not pressed, and the defendant was dismissed with a caution. assault. Mary A. O’Leary was charged by Caroline Jackson with having assaulted her. The plaintiff stated in evidence that the prisoner came to her house, when an altercation ensued about a washing tub, and the prisoner pulled her hair and struck her. The Bench fined the prisoner 205., and 9a. coats, or in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment.

CIVIL CASES. There were seven cases set down for hearing, but of little interest. Three cases were adjourned. Of the remaining four, judgment was confessed in one ; one was settled out of court ; in one case the amount claimed was paid into court ; and in the other judgment was given for the amount claimed, with coats
