The barometer remained low up to a late hour yesterday, but fine weather, with moderate westerly winds, were reported. Yesterday the sea had increased considerably on the western coast of the Middle Island. The s.s. Omeo left Lyttelton at 1.30 p.m. yesterday, and will arrive this morning about 7 o'clock. In consequence of the Albion having some repairs done to her shaft, the s.s. Tararua will take the up mail, the former bringing the return. The s.s. Otago left yesterday for Melbourne via The Bluff. The Stormbird and Manawatu both sailed for Wanganui yesterday. The Easby left Port Chalmers on Wednesday at 12.20 p.m., and reached Lyttelton next day at 11 a.m. Left at 1 p.m. same day, and arrived in harbor at 8.30 a.m. yesterday. She proceeds on to Newcastle to-day. The schooner Aspasia arrived yesterday morning from Wangaehu. She left that port at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Experienced fine weather throughout. The schoonerMelaine, which arrived recently, laden with timber, went round to the slip and discharged. part of her cargo, where it will be used for shipbuilding. The barque Crusader from New York has completed her ballasting, and will probably leave for Newcastle on Monday. H.M.S. Dido left yesterday morning at 9.30 for Melbourne. She will be in time for the opening of the Exhibition. After leaving Melbourne she proceeds to Sydney, thence to England. H.M.S.S. Sappho will arrive shortly, and take the Dido's place.
