MINISTERIAL POLICY.

(special telegrams.) The following telegram was received by Mr. Swanson, M.H.R., yesterday:— Auckland, Thursday. The following resolution was adopted at a meeting of the electors of Newton:—"That this meeting, viewing with alarm the unseemly haste with which the Ministry is endeavoring to pass the Abolition Bill at the close of an expiring Parliament, emphatically protest against the Bill till the voice of the people has been heard at the general election, and request our member to support by every legal and constitutional means the efforts of Sir George Grey in opposing the Abolition Bill this session."

The following telegrams refer to the special meeting of the Dunedin Corporation to consider the political situation: — Dunedin, Thursday.

The Dunedin City Council last night carried the following resolution, eight members voting for it:—"That this Council is of opinion that the consideration of the Abolition of Provinces Bill, now before the Colonial Parliament, should be postponed until the various constituencies have an opportunity of expressing an opinion thereon." At a meeting at Caveraham last night, 200 present, a similar resolution was unanimously passed. ■ ■ Last night the City Council, by a majority of eight to two, affirmed that the abolition question should be submitted to the country before being passed. The Mayor spoke strongly against the Provincial Executive.

The annexed telegram is from the chairman of the Aparima road board district. This board is a non-political body, and represents one of the most important agricultural districts in the Western district of Otago:— Rivebton, Thursday.

At the annual meeting of the Aparima road board held here, the following motion was unanimously carried: —" Resolved, that no further steps be taken re abolition question than the second reading, until referred to the electors ; and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. McGillivray to present to the Assembly." .
