Taranaki arrived yesterday morning from Southern ports, after a trip of thirty-five hours, exclusive of stoppages. She left Fort Chalmers at 2 p.m. on the 11th, reaching Lyttelton at 7.45 next morning: left same day at 3.30 p.m., and arrived as above. Had squally S.W. weather from Dunedin to Lyttelton; from the latter port to Wellington, strong S.E. winds. The s.s. Kiwi left yesterday for Napier. As she was leaving the wharf, the strong S.E. wind turned her bow round, sending her close to the ship Collingwood, severely injuring one of the boats belong to the steamer. The s.s. Taranaki sails to-day for Northern ports. The s.s. Rangatira is expected to-day from Castle Point and Napier. The barometer has risen generally, and the weather moderated, but southerly winds were still reported from nearly all parts of the colony yesterday, and the sea had decreased greatly on all coasts. The hills near the Wainniomata were covered with snow, and though the early part of the day promised to be fair, the afternoon was showery and cold.
