With the rise of the barometer came a change in the weather, the wind blowing gently from the K.N.E-'in the early part of yesterday, veering to the NN W blowing freshly from that quarter during the greater part of the day. Easterly winds and clear weather prevailed in other parts of this island. Similar weather, with cloudy sky, was experienced over the Middle Island. At Oamaru and Timaru a very heavy easterly sea was still running. Towards evening the barometer commenced to fall and there were appearances of a shift of wind. Two or three fresh cases are reported as under treatment in the hospital at the quaiantine ground. The health of the patients shows a slight improvement, but there is still a great amount of sickness amongst the Collingwood’s immigrants. The work of fumigating and thoroughly cleaning the ship was being done yesterday. The ship will be released from quarantine and will come alongside the wharf on Monday next. The s.s. Stormbird arrived from Wanganui last night. The s s Napier arrived from Foxton last night. The p.s. Taranaki, which is due here from the North this morning, will sail for Southern ports at 3 p.m. to-day. The reason for her hurried departure is that she has to catch the ship Eangitikei at Lyttelton, having passengers and gold for that vessel, which sails for London shortly after the arrival of the Taranaki at Lyttelton.
