RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
——♦ Friday, Jolt 2. (Before J. O. Crawford, Esq., 8.M.) DISTURBING THE PEACE. William Brown and Louis Cane were each fined 10s. for having disturbed the public peace the previous day. The prisoners had been arrested when fighting in front of the Prince of Wales Hotel. FURIOUS DRIVING. John Callaghan was charged at the instance of the Inspector of Police! with having driven furiously through the streets of the city. Inspector Atchison had seen defendant driving at a terrific pace along Lambton-quay, and had caused a summons to be Issued against him. Defendant said the horse had taken fright at some boys playing in the street, and for a few hundred yard; was beyond control. The Bench gave defendant the benefit of the doubt, cautioning him to be careful for the future. MALICIOUSLY KILLING A GOAT. William Macey was charged by Henry White with having killed a goat, complainant’s property. The animal was a pet of Mr. White’s family, and defendant had deliberately shot it on the Porirua-road. Defendant said there were a great many wild goats usually about the spot, and he cook the animal to be wild or be would not have shot it. Complainant believed that defendant had shot the goat in consequence of a previous disagreement that had occurred between him and defendant. DRUNKENNESS. Elizabeth Downie, an inveterate drunkard, was sent to gaol for a month. BREACH OP THE CORPORATION ACT. John Bush was charged with having committed a breach of the Corporation Act in having left a quantity of bricks on a footway. It was stated that Rush was not the responsible party, therefore the case against him was postponed for a time.
