A motion was passed that the time to be allowed to holders of land on deferred payments should date from the completion of survey. A motion was agreed to that the Inspector of Schools during the recess should report upon the position of the various school trusts throughout the < province. Ficton, Friday. The Supreme Court sittings closed to-day. Michael Higgins, for attempt to escape from gaol, was sentenced to four yearsl In Barleyman v. Redwood, a civil case, a claim for £3OOO, damages for non-improvement of land, a verdict for £142 was returned. Walter Bernard, for housebreaking, was sentenced to eighteen months. Port Chalmers, Friday. Not less than forty cases were heard in the R.M Court this morning, the plaintiffs being the unfortunate men in the employ of Strachan, the contractor. The amounts claimed varied from 275. to £2O. Judgment in each case went by default. ■
