COMMERCIAL.

The Customs revenue collected at the port of Wellington yesterday was as follows:

Tea .. .. m " v i j.uk»i .. ».v o i The Customs duties' received at this port for the week ending June 17th, 1875, were as under; -

*Business to some extent has been checked during the past week by the inclement weather, and there is a general complaint ot dulncss. Stocks of imported i

goods have received considerable additions from the recent arrivals from London, &o. ; but we report no change in values, and no sales of any importance likely to affect quotations. At auction, prices are not very satisfactory, and the biddings inanimate. Mr. K. J. Duncan, on Wednesday, sold " Lunan " tea, d.p. boxes, 10s. Cd.; half-chests, Is. Brt. to Is. lid. per lb., Martell's brandy, d.p., 40s. per case; soda crystals, £9 10s. per ton ; almonds, S}d. to lOd. per lb!; and about 8000 feet of gilt moulding, at lid. to 7d. per foot, and a variety of other goods, mostly in small lots. In produce, oats appear to be giving way in value, owing to large quantities coming into the market from the South, and cannot be quoted higher than 3s. Cd. per bushel. Flour remains as before, at £lllos, per ton, for Canterbury, and £l2 Es. for Oamani, in sacks. We have advice of the Mera, carrying -100 tons, loading at Oamaru for this port, and with largo stocks on hand, there is no prospect of improvement in rates. Keg butter is dull at Is. 2d. per lb. for prime sample. Cheese, scarce and firm, at lid. to Is. per lb. Bacon and hams, lid. to Is. 4d. for prime cure ra cloth. Potatoes scarce and improving in value, being now worth £4los. to £4 15s per ton. HOME PRODUCE MARKETS. (From the N.Z.L. and M.A. Company's Circular.) Wool.—Pending the commencement of the third series of public sales this evening wo have little to report under this head, as transactions by private contract have been only to a very limited extent. The probable course of the market excites a considerable amount of speculation. It would appear that the purchases made at the previous auctions were not more than sufficient to supply the current requirements of consumers, and there is every reason for expecting a large attendance of bivyers, both Home and Foreign; and as the condition of the trade in France has experienced a decided improvement while that of the Home districts has certainly not declined, there are at least good grounds for taking a somewhat hopeful view of the prospects for the series just commencing. We shall append a note of the arrivals off the coast up to the latest minute before going to press. It is possible that the quantity maybe further increased before 4 p.m., at which hour the first sale commences. Should the arrivals prove less than has been anticipated, the third series will be unduly heavy, and as the spring months form the chief buying season in the trade, particularly as regards France, it would be as well that the main supply should be forward when the best and largest market is available. The Importers' Committee have not yet announced a date for the commencement of the succeeding sales, but should the time fixed show an interval somewhat longer than usual between the two largest series of the year, no doubt the effect would be favorable, as buyerawould meet the market more confidently. _ Arrivals for May-Juno series, commencing this evening: —

Tallow—During the past four weeks SSG4 casks of Australasian tallow have been ofTered at public auction, of which 412 C found buyers at prices ranging from 373. to 42a. 9(1. per cwt. for mutton, and 325. to 41s. fid. for beef, the highest quotations having been realised at the sales held on 16th April, when, for fine qualities, an advance of 9d. per cwt. was secured on a general rise of Is. to Is. fid. which had occurred in the previous week. This improvement was due to a combination of circumstances, namely, inclement weather, which affected the feed of stock in this country, and consequently diminished the yield of Home-melted tallow; a continuance of contrary winds, which kept supplies of Australian tallow off the market; and the smallness of stocks of Russian, coupled with the prospect of curtailed receipts in the future. Prices realised at the last two sales, however, show a decline from the highest point recently touched, and our quotations for Australian are now only about Is. to Is. Od. higher than those given in last San Francisco circular, the activity in the market having to some extent subsided, as arrivals during the past week have brought the total for the month much beyond the average.

We quote current prices as under:—

Arrivals to Ist May, 8342 casks. Shipments advised by mails delivered from Australia and New Zealand since last San Francisco circular, 4053 casks. Stocks of all sorts in warehouse on 3rd instant were 16,414 LEATnEK.—There have been two public sales of Australian leather since our circular No. 95 of the 6th • ultimo. On the 9th April, 2723 sides were catalogued, and 2053 disposed of under the hammer. Prices of best and light sides were well maintained, but extra heavy weights were considerably lower. On the 23rd idem, 3310 sides were submitted at auction, and sold at and ex public sale at about previous prices, good tannages commanding the preference. Quotations, based on prices realised at the most recant nnblic auction, are as follow :

Imports for four weeks ending 29th April, 1191 bales. The mails delivered three weeks since brought advices of the shipment of 1120 bales. Preserved Meats.—We are able to report a continued fair demand for beef and mutton at previous quotations, with the exception of 21b. tins of mutton, which, being scarce and in good request, command an advance of id. per lb. on prices ruling a month since. 41b. and 61b. tins arc, however, difficult of sale, the demand at present being very slow for these sizes. Arrivals, as will be seen below, have been larger than usual, both from the Australasian ports and America; while advices of actual shipments and of the prospect's of the trade at the former, lead us to expect considerably increased supplies soon. Subjoined are current quotations :—Boiled mutton, 61b. and 41b. tins, 4Jd. to 4£d. per lb. ; 21b. tins, Od. to OJd. per lb. ; boiled beef, 61b. and 41b. tins, 6jd. to 6id. per lb.: 21b. tins, 7Jd. to 7fd. per lb. Imported for. the four weeks ended 29th April, 23,833 cases from the Australasian colonies, and 6453 from America. Shipments advised by the mails delivered since circular No. 95, 13,205 cases.

New Zealand Hump.—Of this fibre 04 bales were brought forward on 7th ultimo at public auction, but ■withdrawn, and at a subsequent sale on 21st idem only 50 bales, out of 202 offered, were disposed of, at from £l7 ss. to £2l ss. per ton for ordinary to line. Privately, small sales have been made at full prices, there being rather more demand latterly in consequence of the low rate 3 which have ruled for some time. Good clean qualities are inquired for, and realise £l9 to £2l per ton, but ordinary half cleaned do not bring more than £ls to £lB per ton. Subjoined will be found statistics of stocks, landings and deliveries of New Zealand hemp, prepared to

Imported during the four weeks to 20th April, 10 bales.- "We are without any further'advices of shipments.
