BY TELEGRAPH BLENHEIM, Friday Arrived, 11 a.m. : Lyttelton, from Wellington. AUCKLAND, Friday. ' The barane Comet (Hokitika) which left Dunedin for Hobarton in February last, and has not since been heard of, was insured in the Standard Company, Auckland branch, for £2OOO. Fears are entertained for the safety of the schooner Pacific, which left Timara for the Manukan on the 3rd inst, —the day previous to the destructive gale—and has not since been seen. She had a cargo of ■wheat insured for £llOO in the New Zealand and South British Companies. • _ , Arrived : Agnes and Jessie, from Oamaru : Pearl, from Timaru : Orpheus,' from Napier ; Atlantic and Sea Spray, from Lyttelton. TIMARU, Friday. 1 The Alhambra called here yesterday, and took a large quantity of grain for Melbourne. NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday. itnnvrn- Eliza Mary, from Hobarton. She left there on the 19th. LYTTELTON, Friday. Arrived : Otago, from the .South : she sails North to-morrow. Ladybird, from the North; she lias sailed for the South. POET CHALMEES, Friday. Arrived : Alhambra, from Timaru; Hawea, from special trip to Oamaru, having steamed from that port at the rate of 12J knots an hour. She sails North on Sunday. Sailed : Phoebe, for Northern ports. The s.s. Easby, Captain Kennedy, arrived from Newcastle and Sydney at 1 p.m. yesterday, bringing 2250 tons of general cargo for all ports. She has 400 tons of coal, and 150 tons general cargo for Wellington. The Easby was unable to come alongside for some hours after her arrival, owing to the outer T being occupied by the steamers Manawatu and Luna, and the brig Robin Hood. Wo are indebted to Captain Kennedy for our report, and Australian exchanges. _ . ■ , Captain Johnson, of the Marine Department, was a. passenger by the Ino, which arrived yesterday from picton and Tory Channel Captain Johnson carefully examined the channel, with a view of determining the most suitable spot for placing leading lights for the guidance of mariners. He placed two beacons in the channel as an experiment, before deciding upon a permanent spot for a lighthouse, as he is desirous of learning from captains of steamers their opinion as to the suitableness of the positions he has at present fixed UP The Union Company’s s.s. Hawea may be expected here on Wednesday next from the South. She is advertised to sail for Northern ports, via Picton and Nelson, on Thursday, the Ist proximo. Wo have every reason to believe that it is not the intention of the new company to reduce the fares as they at present exist. We regret to learn this step, as the prices as now charged by. the steamship companies are exorbitant, as well as the fact that voyagers have to suffer many inconveniences on board the coastal The p.s Manawatu came off the Slip on Thursday night, having had her hull cleaned and painted. She left the wharf at 5 p.m. yesterday, for Wanganui, with a general cargo. She towed the brig Neptune out to sea, and that vessel ought to make a good run to Newcastle, having a fine leading wind, which is likely to last a few days longer. , , , , The Crest of the Wave, schooner, sailed yesterday in ballast for Havelock. The schooners Bee and Ruby cleared outwards yesterday, the former for Amuri in ballast, and the latter for Walpapa with a general cargo. The s.s. Wellington left the wharf at 1 p.m. yesterday for Northern ports, via Nelson, Amongst her passengers was his Honor Chief Justice Prendergast, who proceeded to Picton, where ho will hold the next criminal sittings of the Supreme Court. The a.s. Egmont sailed last night for Wanganui and Rangitikei. The ship Hlndostaa has discharged the whole of her cargo in first-rate order and condition. As soon as she has completed her ballasting she will sail for Callao. Mr, Pearce’s smart fore-and-aft schooner Aurora arrived yesterday morning from the Bast Coast in ballast. She left Wangahue on Wednesday last, and had light southerly winds until arrival.
