Sellers; National Bank, 70s. MELBOURNE, (From the Argus, May 27.) .... In lire import markets a moderate amount of dusj ness has been transacted, and we report sales t 0 a fl “ r extent, both privately and by auction. In breadstuns we note a good inquiry for wheat; sales_ are restricted, however, owing to the quantity offering being so very trifling. Small parcels have been disposed of by private contract at ss. 2d. and ss. 3d., but, contrary to custom, there was nothing at all offered at the auction sales this forenoon. W® earn > however, that some 400 tons South Australian wheat changed hands privately, to arrive. Flour is moving off for trade purposes at .£ll for good brands, and although our quotation of £lO 17s. Gd. for brands in less favor is still maintained, no business has been reported of late at that figure. Oats arc moving off very freely, and full rates arc obtained. Under tho hammer about 1500 bags were cleared off this forenoon, when seed parcels were disposed of at from 4s. to 4s. 44(1. and 4s. Gd., while common and discolored qualities were got rid of at 3s. 6d, to 3s. 7d., and up to 3s. Od, Supplies of maize having come to hand by the steamer, there has been more doing, though at a shade less money; about 1000 bags of to-day’s arrival have been run off at 6s. 3d. Brewing sugars have been selling privately from close on £34 to £34 10s., the latter having been paid for whitish Mauritius. Under the hammer fully 10,000 mats Javas, ex Ehrensvard, in faulty condition, were quitted at £26 15s. to £27. About 1220 bags Mauritius were at the same time disposed of, when middling white crystals were sold at £33 10s. to £34 ; yellow counters at £3llos. to £32 55.; grey and soft counters at £3O to £3O 10s.: low yellows at £2G; and low rations at £2O. The usual sale of Yarraville refined will be held to-morrow. Teas have been less noticed, and nothing special has been allowed to come before us. Candles were largely offered by auction this afternoon, and sales were made at lOd. to lOjd. Tobaccoes are very firm, and likely to improve. "Wo understand that Cameron’s agents have recently purchased from the trade some 700 packages of this maker’s tens, which, owing to the advices to hand, are to be held for extreme rates. In liquids sales of Hcnnessy’s pale brandy still continue to be effected at Bs, 3d.
