POET CHALMERS, Sunday. The ketch Edith Reid ran ashore on the North Spit, Port Molynenx. on the afternoon of the 29th, Arrived; Wellington, s.s., from Northern ports.

Messrs. McMeckan, Blackwood, and Co.’s s.s. Otago, Captain McLean, arrived yesterday at 9.45 a.m. from Melbourne via Southern ports, bringing a number of passengers and twenty tons of cargo for Wellington. Her latest date from Melbourne is to the 20th inst. She is advertised to sail for Melbourne via Hokitika at noon to-day. The following is the report of her passage from Melbourne to here .-—Left Sandridge Railway Pier at 3 p.m. on the 20th inst., with 452 tons of cargo for aU ports, and a full passenger list. Had moderate weather to The Bluff, where she arrived at 3,30 p.m. on the 25th ; left again at sp.m. on the2Gth for Dunedin, and arrived there at 7.30 a,m. on the 27th; left again at 6 p.m. same day for Lyttelton, and arrived there at 12.20 on the 28th ; left again on the 29th at 4.15 p.m., and arrived at Wellington at 9.45 a.m. on the 30tJj. We have to thank Mr. James, purser, for fitcximu other favors. The A.S.P. Co.’s s.s. Southern Cross arrived last night at 6.30, after a protracted passage, having met with very severe weather on her trip from Auckland to here. Captain McGillivray reports leaving Auckland on Saturday, the 22nd, at 4 p.m., had light variable winds and line weather until arriving at Napier Roadstead at 2.30 p.m. on the 24th; got Inside the same evening at 6 p.m. Discharged seventy tons of cargo the following morning, and sailed from Napier at 12.30 p.m.; rounded the Kidnappers at 2 p.m.; experienced fresh W. and S.W. winds until arriving off the Orio Bluff at 8,30 a.m. on Wednesday, when the wind suddenly veered round to the southward, with hard rain squalls, and a heavyseagetting np. Captain McGillivray deemed it advisable to put the vessel’s head to theS.E.; and at 10.30 a.rn., the wind still increasing, hove the vessel to until X 0.30 same night, when the gale getting severer, the captain decided on running back to Napier, arriving there at 2 p.m. on the 27th. Landed the passengers, and lay at anchor In the roadstead until Saturday morning. Left again at 10.45 a.m., and arrived as above after a passage of thirty-two hours, having had strong S. and S.W. winds until reaching Castle Point, thence light variable winds and fine weather. The Southern Cross, in all probability, will go on the Patent Slip to-day, as her bottom is very foul and requires cleaning.

The s.s. Napier arrived from Wanganui at 8.30 a.m. yesterday. She left Wanganui at 3.15 p.m. on Saturday, and arrived as above after a smooth passage of seventeen hours, having had fine weather with light southerly wind. Captain Butt brought three passengers from Kapiti Island. He reports the following vessels as wind-bound therelsabella, whaler, from Rock Point, bound South ; William and Mary, schooner, from Peloms, with timber, bound to Patea: Aspasia, schooner, from Kaipara to Lyttelton, three weeks out:. and the schooner Melaine, from Kaipara to Lyttelton, three weeks out. The s.s. Taranaki, from Lyttelton, arrived at 6.15 a.rn. yesterday, after a very quick run of sixteen hoars and a half under steam, beating the s.s. Otago by half an hoar, the latter vessel doing the passage in seventeen hours. The Taranaki brought thirtynine passengers, Mr. and Mrs. Hoskins and company being amongst the number. During her detention at Port Chalmers she was docked and her hull received a thorough overhaul. The report of her passage from Dunedin is as follows:—Left that port at 4.20 p.m. on the 27th; arrived at Lyttelton after a very smart passage of seven and a half hours; loft Lyttelton at 1.45 p.m. on the 20th, arriving at the Wellington wharf at 6.15 a.m. on the 30th, after a splendid run of sixteen and a half hours, having met with light northerly winds and smooth sea. The Taranaki sails North this day at noon

The p.s. Lyttelton, Captain Scott, arrived from Blenheim last night, after a fair-weather passage of seven hours.

The p.s. Manawatu, Captain Evans, left Napier at 11.30 a.m. on the 29th ; experienced favorable winds and heavy S.E. swell to Blackhead ; thence to Wellington thick foggy weather; arrived at the wharf at 11 p.m. on the 80th. The regular trading ketch Falcon arrived on Saturday, after a smart run of seven hours from Wairau. She brought one passenger and a cargo of grain, consigned to Messrs. Pascoe.

The fore-and-aft schooner Richard and Mary arrived on Saturday, with a cargo of produce from Lyttelton. She left that port on Tuesday, the 2Cth, and consequently has been over three days on her passage, caused by encountering very bad weather, necessitating her to take shelter at Port Underwood. . Ml or Napier on Saturday, at 2 p.m., to fetch Sir Donald McLean. She took several passen* gers, amongst whom was his Honor tho Chief Justice, who takes tho Napier circuit. On tho Luna's return to Wellington, It is expected sho will be taken on tho Patent Slip to have her bottom cleaned. Tho Egmont arrived from Foxton yesterday, after a line-weather passage from that port. The s.s. Bangatlra, which has been receiving an overhaul, will come off the slip this afternoon, and resume her running to tho East Coast on Tuesday, leaving the wharf at her usual hour of sailing.
