RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Tuesday, May 11. (Before .7. C. Crawford, Esq., R.M.) E. Boresford and M. Beresford were charged with being drunk and disorderly in Mannersstreet, the evidence being wholly unfit for publication. The usual fine of 205., or 18 hours’ confinement, was inflicted. ASSAULT. Hiri Pepi was charged with assaulting Pete Hamiora. Prom the evidence it appeared that there had been a dispute over a debt of 6d., which terminated in the defendant striking the plaintiff a severe blow in the eye with his pipe, which gave her a bail black eye. His Worship considered that an assault had been proved, and fined the defendant 55., or 24 hours’ imprisonment. Considerable amusement • was caused in court by the plaintiff’s aunt rushing up the Bench to pay the fine, in order to save her gallant nephew from suffering imprisonment.
