COMMERCIAL.

The Customs duties received at tills port for the week ending May 6, 1875, were as under: * £ s. d. . . . 1A A

moderate and confined to trade requirements, prices as a rule being unaltered. Although stocks of imported goods are in the main very heavy, the demand of the last few months has tended somewhat to reduce them, and in some few cases lines are becoming scarce. We report no transactions to'auy extent calling for notice. At auction ou the 6th, Mr. R. J. Duncan sold over 120 cases American chairs, at prices ranging from 335. to 60s. per case. In the produce market there is no alteration in flour from last week’s prices, holders asking £l2 per ton for Canterbury flour, and £l2 10s. for Oamam flour, in sacks. Oats are in fair supply, and are held for 3s. 9d. per bushel: but. In the face of the large yield last year \nd the low price ruling in Melbourne, we do not think this rate will be sustained. Butter meets with very little enquiry for shipment, the only sales reported being for local consumption; prices range from Is. 2d to Is. 3d. per lb. for prime cure, in kegs, with no demand. Cheese scarce, and selling at lOld, to lid. per lb. Bacon and hams in good demand, very little at present offering; quoted at 9d. to Is. 4d. for prime cure. TIMARU, May 3. We have no alteration to note in the grain market. Although deliveries have been large during the week, transactions between grower and merchant have not been numerous. Owing to the inadequacy of shipping facilities, stocks of wheat are becoming very large, some merchants, whose stores are filled, being obliged to stack out underneath tarpaulins. The grain still comes in in fine condition. Quotations for wheat are from 2s. lid. for ordinary to 3s. 2d. for best milling. Oats remain at 2s, 3d. to 2s. 4d. Barley is quoted at 4s. Gd. for best, but a transaction in excellent quality came under our notice at 4s. 9d. BY TELEGRAPH. NELSON, Thursday. Mr. G. W. Binney reports; Trade very quiet. Flour—Oamam, £l2; Christchurch, £11; pollard, £7 ; bran, £5; potatoes, £5 ; cheese. Is.; hams and bacon, none. AUCKLAND, Friday. Mr. Buckland reports fat cattle at ss. 7d. per lOOlbs. higher, selling at 375. to 425. 6d.; sheep, 3Jd. to 4d. CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The market quotations, f.o.b. at Lyttelton, are ; Milling wheat, 3s. 9d.; oats, 35.; barley, 4s. Gel.; hams and bacon, to Is.; potatoes, £3; flour, £lO to £11; bran, £5 10s.; sharps, £0 ; cheese, 9£d.; butter. Is. sd. to Is. 6d. The ships Hudson and Lady Jocelyn, which have cleared for London, have taken 2500 tons of wheat. Several vessels are loading wheat at Tiraaru for millers in the South. Dairy produce is very scarce.
