Wellington arrived at 1 a.m. yesterday from the Northern porta, after a lengthy passage of nearly five days, having been bar-bound at Manukau from Sunday, the 2nd,-till 8 a.m. on Tuesday, the 4th, The following is the report ©f her passage:— Left Onehunga bn Sunday, but was bar-bound at the Manukau Heads till 8 a.m. on Tuesday, when she got away, reaching New Plymouth at 6 a.m. on Wednesday; left again at 9.30 a.m., and arrived at Nelson at 6.30 a.m. yesterday ; sailed at 9.30 a.m., and reached Picton at 6 p.m.; left again in an hour, and made a good run of five hours to this port, arriving as above. Experienced fresh S.W. breeze and heavy cross sea to Nelson, thence light S.E. winds and fine weather. We are indebted to Mr. Wilcox, purser, for report and our exchanges. The Wellington steamed away from the wharf at 4 p.m. yesterday for Southern ports. The Egmont and Manawatu both left yesterday afternoon; the Egraont for Foxton, and the Manawatu for Wanganui. The s.s. Napier arrived at the wharf at midnight. She left Foxton at half-past ten a.m. yesterday, and had southerly winds and a smooth sea on the run down. The schooners Elizabeth Curio and Ruby sailed yesterday for their respective ports. The Dido, cutter, and Neptuno, brig, both cleared out yesterday. The Neptuno is advertised to sail this morning for Newcastle, The s.s. Albion took her departure for Melbourne via The Bluff, shortly aftcr2p.ra. yesterday, carrying the outward Suez mail. The A.S.P. Co.’s Southern Cross, which arrived on Thursday night from Auckland via Napier, left again for those ports at 4 p.m. yesterday, carrying a quantity of goods consigned to Napier, transhipped from the Melbourne steamers, and the barques Sunbeam and Edwin Fox. The Mary Bannatyne will be unloaded by to-day, and Captain Munn expects to sail for Lyttelton on or about Monday next. Exciting Scene. —The crews of the Clyde and Enterprise displayed considerable activity and eagerness in the handling of their respective craft on Saturday morning, the goal to be attained being the berth at the railway wharf, only one vessel being able to discharge there at a time. But their utmost efforts were in vain. The fates were adverse ! Neither vessel could reach the goal, and recourse had finally to be had to the steamer Napier, which was about to tow the Hannah Broomfield to the wharf on the other side of the river. The Clyde was the first to be taken In tow, and the Enterprise had consequently to await her turn to discharge. The passage up and down of so many vessels necessitated the frequent opening of the turntable, causing much Inconvenience and annoyance to impatient teamsters and anxloua travellers.
