The amount of Customs duties received at this port for the week ending April 23, 1875, were as under:
The import trade of the past week has been un marked by any change in quotations. Business generally has been rather dull than otherwise, although there is, nevertheless, a pretty large amount of goods changing bands in the ordinary course. Brandies are firm at the adyance realised last week, Hennessey’s case being held for 325. to 335,, and Martcll's at 315.; bulk brandies remaining at Ss. 7d. to Ss. 9d. The May arrived last week, from Mauritius via Adelaide, bringing a cargo of sugar and flour, and the cargo has been landing in excellent conditionmost of the flour having been sold, to arrive, at fair rates, considering the present state ot the market. Sugars continue at last quotations. The produce market has shown little change. Butter is still quoted at Is. 2d. to Is. 2jd. for prime samples in kegs, with little enquiry. We noticed a shipment of Adelaide butter, received ex Alhambra, which can be imported at a profit, and we hear of large shipments expected from Sydney, where the price is lower than our farmers care to make it for; there is consequently every prospect of declining rates. Cheese continues very scarce and much wanted ; Canterbury make is quoted at lOd. to 10Jd. —no stocks. Hams and bacon equally scarce and in demand. Oats dull, at 3s. 3d. to 3s. sd. per bushel, but prices are ap patently hardening. Canterbury and Oamaru flour unaltered from last week’s rates, £ll to £ll 10s., for sacks. by telegraph . AUCKLAND, Friday. Mr. Alexander Saunders reports:—Buyers : Beach, lls. ; Bismarck, 10s. 3d. ; Cure, 7s. 6d. Sellers : National Bank, 745,: Fiji, 575. od.: South British, 495.; National Insurance, 28s. 6d.; New Zealand Insurance, 80s. Mr. Binney reports Southern flour, £l2 ; bran, £7 10s.; pollard, £7 10s. to £8 ; oats, 3s. 9d.; barley, 6s. Gd.; wheat, 4s. 3d. to 4s. Gd.; maize, none ; hams and bacon. Is. 2d.; cheese, lOd.; potatoes, £5 to £5105.; oatmeal, £l9 ; pearl barley, £26. Mr Buckland reports:—Fat sheep, good quality, plentiful, at 4d. to 44d. per lb.; fat lambs, 13a. to 155.; fat cattle, average number, 255. to 30s. per lOOlbs. LYTTELTON, Friday. Export prices f.o.b. at Lyttelton—Wheat, 3s. fid.; oats. Ss.; flour, £9 10s. to £lO 10s.; bran, £4 10s. to £5 10s.; cheese, lOd. Wheat and oats are firm in consequence of the farmers holding back for higher rates. The stock in merchants’ hands is getting low.
