NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday. Sailed : Taianaki, for Southern ports. The fine ship Dallam Tower was berthed alongside the wharf yesterday morning. She entered at the Customs yesterday, and will probably open her hatches this morning. C'apt. Kennel's schooner the Hannah Barratt, after a rapid and successful run to the Chatham Islands, returned to Wellington last evening. The vessel made a rapid passage from this port to the Chathams, the voyage having been accomplished in flfty-two hours, fine weather and favorable winds prevailing the whole time. She left on her return voyage on Saturday last, but unfavorable, though light, winds retarded her progress. Captain Kenner arrived off the heads yesterday morning, but the light northerly breeze prevented him reaching an anchorage till five o'clock yesterday. She brings eleven passengers, eight horses, and a Bmall quantity of produce. The barque Ardentinny, Captain IJrown, sailed for Newcastle yesterday at 1 o'clock with a fresh N.w. breeze. The steamer Manawatu arrived from Wanganui at 10 o'clock yesterday morning with ft full cargo of wool and twenty passenger?. She discharged her inward cargo, coaled, and shipped a quantity of merchandise in four hours, leaving again for "Wanganui at two o'clock. The clipper schooner Aurora, Itomeril. master, after a week s absence from Wellington, arrived yesterday morning from Pahau and Castle Point. She brings 66 bales wool and a number of hides. Very rough weather, from the north-west, was experienced whilst the vessel lay at Castle Point.

The ketch Hunter, with a full cargo of general merchandise, sailed for Rangitikei yesterday afternoon. , . ... The brigantine Enterprise, CampbcU, master, which left WeUington for Greymouth with railway material about three weeks since, returned to port yesterday at noon. She crossed the Grey bar on Sunday last, wet, unfavorable weather, with light winds, being experinced till Thursday night last, when the vessel anchored at WelUngton heads, beating upmttyeiterday's flood tide. She brings a cargo of 108 tons ol "scenes at Sha.-A father and son (first ?»d second engineers) drifted about on the Bay of Biscay from four p.m. till seven a.m. following, on a piece of wreck from the La Plata. At seven p m they took on another victim wh ° na ?. b^ n floating for three hours, and had lost a thumb by the mast falling on his hand when the steamer broke in two. Let us picture to ourselves these three men as they were that „ ig ht--one, with his thumb stump wrapped in his cap, the father without his Jacket. Ho said the boat broke under his feet, and ho stooped to call his son to come up, as she was breaking up, and when he rose, his jacket had been caught in the break, and he ran and left it. If that picture does not suffice, try another; not far from these, but out of reach of sight or hearing, is the liftboat, smashed by the mast, but floating by its cork buoyancy ; the water inside on a level with the water outside, and with one oar raised with a jacket on it for a signal. There are five brave men in that thing, and they have no food and no drink. On the second day, one of the number dies from exhaustion ; then, a second one becomes delirious and jumps overboard. Oil the next day a third one of the number becomes delirious, and jumps overboard twice, and is twice pulled back by his two miserable feUow waifs ; a third time he jumps, and this time he is beyond their reach ; they have no oars, and he sinks, and they have another night by themselves, signalling and hailing every vessel that came in sight for they still had their sight and their reason, although they had had neither food nor water for sixtv hours. Thev were then rescued by a passing vess'el, and the above is their story.— Nautical Maaa-
