NEW ZEALAND UNIVERSITY.

Friday, March 5. Present—The Chancellor, the Vice-Chancel-lor, Hon. Mr. Stokes, Rev. Mr. Johnston, Mr. Kolleston, Kev. Mr. Andrew, Rev. Dr. Stuart, Mr. Gisborne, and the Hon. Dr. Grace. The minutes of the previous meeting having been confirmed, The Vice-chancellor moved, and the Rev. Di. Stuakt seconded, that the following be a regulation,—That students who matriculated at the University of Otago, previous to the affiliation of such university to the University of New Zealand, may present themselves for examination for the B.A. degree in completing the course prescribed by the University of Otago, Consequent upon the passing of the foregoing resolution, it was agreed that the power to give effect to tho foregoing regulation, and the power to appoint examiners in this matter, bo hereby delegated by the Senate to tho Chancellor. Mr. Kolleston moved, and it was resolved, —That in any revision of the regulations now in operation, it is desirable that the fixing of acadomic terms be left to the respective affiliated colleges. On the motion of Mr. Kolleston, Mr. A. W. Williamson, who matriculated in the Otago University and had kept all the terms prior to the affiliation of the Otago University, and had passed the examinations required by that institution, was admitted to the degree of B.A. On the motion of the Vice-Chancellou, it was decided,—That the University Calendar for 1875 should be republished, with such additions and amendments as might be rendered necessary by the proceedings of this session. The Senate went into committee on the Chancellor's report, and the memorial from the professors of Canterbury and Otago.when the Chairman reported progress and obtained leave to sit again. Mr. Gisborne moved, the Dr. Stuart seconded, and it was resolved, —That an additional annual sum of £SOO, making a total of £ISOO, be devoted to scholarships and paid into tho separate scholarship fund, the savings of- any year to be used to increase the number of scholarships in future years. The following resolution, reported from committee, was adopted by the Senate,— That tho Chancellor is hereby authorised to invest the scholarship fund in colonial public securities, or to place it on deposit at interest in any one, at his discretion, of the New Zealand Banks. The Senate adjourned.

Satdkday, March 6. Present—The Chancellor, the Vice-Chan-cellor, Hon. Mr. Stokes, Rev. Mr. Andrew, Eev. Mr. Johnston, Mr. Kolleston, Rev. Dr. Stuart, Mr. Curtis, and the Hon. Dr. Grace. The minutes of previous meeting having been confirmed, and progress having been reported from the committee on the memorial of the professors, It was resolved, on the motion of the V iceChancellor,—That members of the Senate not resident in Wellington be reimbursed their actual travelling expenses; that is to say, fares, and ten shillings per diem during absence from home, with the exception of session days, and receive £1 per diem during their attendance at the Senate. On the motion of the Chancellor, it was resolved, That the powers of the Senate, under section 12 of the University Act, in regard to the appointment of examiners for scholarships and of scholars of the second year and of undergraduates not in connection with any affiliated institution, are hereby delegated to the Chancellor. It was resolved, on the motion of Dr. Stcart,—That the examinations be held as soon as possible after the 30th April. The Rev. Dr. Stuart moved, —That twelve scholarships be offered for co'mpetition during the current year. The Vice-Chancellor moved, as an amendment, —That last year's schedule of scholarships be the schedule for 1875. The amendment was carried. Tha Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor; and Mr. Gisborne were appointed a committee to prepare a report of the proceedings of the University, as required by the 28th clause of the University Act of 1872. On the motion of the Rev. Mr. JOHNSTON, it was resolved,—That the next meeting of the Senate be held at Christchurch, at noou on the first Wednesday in March, 1876. J. E. Fitz Gerald, Esq, was appointed an examiner in the Bowen prize examination for 1875. The report of the committee on the memorial of the professors was received and ordered to be printed. The Senate then adjourned.
