The Chairman of the Greytown Committee reque3ted'the Board to erect a schoolhouse and a teacher's residence. The committee had raised £IOO, which it would hand over to the Board as soon as tenders for the erection of the buildings had been accepted. The Secretary stated that the tender which had been sent in for. the school building alone amounted to £3BO, without desks and offices. The Board had supplemented the committee's contribution by £350, but the total, £450, was insufficient to erect both a school and a residence, f , Considerable discussion then ensued as to which was the best class of cottage suitable for teachers' residences. With regard to the residence money applied for, the Secretary stated that as the applicant was not a certificated teacher he was not, according to the Board's rules, entitled to any residence money. Only certificated teachers were favored in this respect. Mr. Bdnny considered it ridiculous that ;a teacher in receipt of only £BO a year should be asked to furnish himself with a residence out of that sum, while a teacher in receipt of £l2O should be provided iii that respect by the Board. Both matters were left in abeyance. PAHACTANDI SCHOOL. Alterations and improvements to the Pahautanui school, approved of by Messrs.
