♦- —— WELLINGTON V. MARION. The match between these two clubs was resumed yesterday at noon. The weather was anything but favorable to good play, the ground being rendered very greasy by the drizzling rain that fell during the afternoon. The Marton team began the play by sending Dormer and Beckett to the wickets to the bowling of Knapp and Armitage. Dormer preserved his wicket from tho leathery onslaughts of both bowlers for a considerable time, several other batsmen being disposed of in the interim. Jacob was the only batsman who made a stand during Dermer’s innings, and some line play was exhibited until the latter retired for 16. Wickets then fell rapidly until Anson and Sherwill got together, when another stand was made and a material addition mode to the score. Anson’s batting was the feature of the innings, and was still more creditable considering that Mr. Anson played with a sprained ankle received on the previous day. His score was 19, and the innings closed for 109, leaving the Wcllington_ men 66 to get to win. This number was quickly put together with the loss of four ■wickets only, W. J. Salmon contributing 20 during the short time ho was in. Tho wickets were drawn as soon ns the required number were obtained, although it was not past [four
o’clock. The weather, however, was too unpleasant to continue play, and the stumps were drawn. It should be mentioned that the fielding of the Wellington team was exceptionally good during the first day’s play, but only of average merit yesterday. In the evening, the Wellington Club entertained the Marton team at a dinner given at Donecker’s Hotel. Mutual expressions of the pleasure the match had afforded, and talk of the probabilities of a renewal of the contest were indulged in, and at an early hour the party broke up. _______
