THEATRE ROYAL.

SCHOOL, “ School” was again presented at the Theatre Royal last evening. The piece is now so familiar to Wellington playgoers as to need no description. It was put upon the stage last evening—notwithstanding the fact that the incessant rain in a great measure interfered with a good house —with every care, and all performed their parts with the esprit which is so characteristic of the present company. Without doubt the Theatre Koyal will be filled to overflowing this evening, when Mrs. Bates -will receive a complimentary benefit at the hands of her admirers in Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. Bates have made many friends in this city during their brief stay, and whether before the footlights or in their private capacities, they are deservedly respected and admired. Patrons of the theatre, since the arrival of this talented couple, have received pleasure as rare as it was unexpected, and it is satisfactory to notice that Mrs. Bates’ efforts to please have not fallen upon barren soil. The play selected by the lenejiciare is, perhaps, the one in which she appears to the greatest advantage, viz., “Elizabeth, Queen of England,” in which she will sustain the chief part. The part of Essex will, of. course, be sustained by Mr. Bates.
