" Ingomar " was presented last evening. It was the second representation of this sterling drama by the present company, and since its former production, judging by the finished style and general excellence which obtained last evening, assiduous rehearsal has been enforced by the management. If it were possible, Mrs. Bates's Parthenia excelled her previous representation of that difficult character ; while Mr. Bates, as the " noble savage," played with his great care and ability. The excellence of the rendering of these exhaustive parts did not pass without recognition by the audience, who acknowledged their appi'eciation by frequent and continuous applause. The "Shylock" of the drama fell, as formerly, into the hands of Mr. Burford, who performed the selfish merchant excellently. The piece, altogether, was pei'haps the greatest success the compauy has achieved during the season, the less talented members of the company in no wise marring the good effect of their more proficient brethren. The evening's entertainment was concluded by "The Wandering Minstrel," in which Mr. Howard played Jim Baggs with his customary and catching humor, keeping the audience in one continuous roar of laughter. "East Lynne" will be played this evening. A Wairarapa contemporary says:—A Scandinavian named Steffinsen, in the employ of Mr. Bannister, Masterton, committed suicide on Christmas Eve by hanging himself on a tree beside the Waipone river. Deceased was about forty-five years old, and had often tallced to his acquaintances of hanging himself. We are requested to call the attention of intending purchasers to the important land sale to be held at the auction rooms of Mr. George Thomas to-day, by order of Robert Port, Esq. The sale embraces 28 town allotments, and a town acre, to be sold in suitable allotments, and a very choice section in Abel Smith-street, adjoining the grounds of the Archdeacon. There are also to be sold two lots of suburban property, one of 800 acres, and the other of 460 acres. The Sydney Sunday Newsman has the following trifle about a well-known comique : "Barry O'Neill, who has returned from England and the United States three times already, is likely to do another journey on the "briny ;" having received notice of a small fortune lately occupied by an uncle in Dublin. Here's a good chance for a nigger show, or another 'Paradise Lost' Panorama. Light another candle!"
