The prisoner has not long been released from gaol, where she had undergone three months’ imprisonment for an exactly similar offence. The regimen of the establishment seems not to have improved her moral tone, for her house after her release speedily reverted to its former infamous condition. The case against the Douglass family gave the police the opportunity to interfere, the prisoners being in the house where the rowdyism occurred. Numerous witnesses gave Mason a very bad character, her conduct being specially reprehensible, from the fact that she has several daughters who do not profit much from the mother’s example. Having some previous knowledge of the prisoner’s mode of life, his Worship had little difficulty in dealing with the case, the punishment awarded being three months’ imprisonment. The prisoner was somewhat contumacious upon being removed ; but,, yielding to the persuasive force of Serjeant t Monaghan, she was taken from the dock. ; Charles Price, another vagrant, was remanded for a week..
