A DISTINCTION WITHOUT DIFFERENCE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l see that, in your condensed report of the anniversary meeting, held last evening at the Pier Hotel, you say, "It waa resolved thav. the anniversary of the province should bo celebrated by a regatta during the day (22nd inst.),'* &c. Will you oblige by correcting this at once—so offensive to the founders of the colony, of winch I claim to bo one, having arrived here January 22,1840. The word '* Province " is well known in Itoman history, but the word was not known in New Zealand till the Constitution Act was passed. You should, I respectfully submit, correct your mistake and substitute the words— w The anniversary of the foundation of the colony of New Zealand” Yours, Ac., T _ __ J. H. Wallace
