WAIRARAPA RACES.

(BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.) (From Our Special Eepouteii.) Geeytown, Thursday. The races, which were to have begun to-day, have been postponed till to-morrow, in consequence of the bad weather experienced yesterday afternoon. The morning was beautiful, but towards evening heavy clouds from the southward indicated a coming storm. The meteorological phenomena wore remarkable. About six o’clock thunder, in volume equal to discharges of cannon, broke in the neighborhood of Greytown, and violent atmospheric disturbances followed. The heavy-laden clouds to the westward wore reft by forked lightning of unusual brilliancy, but no rain fell till about midnight; it then came down steadily, and

continued without intermission till noon today, when the weather Broke and cleared off a little.

In the meantime, the stewards of the races resident in Greytowi* and Featlierston, communicated with each’ other by telegraph and determined to postpone the races. Some disappointment was felt, hut the decision was acquiesced in by the great body of the public. Greytown and Featlierston are crowded with visitors from the surrounding , districts and Wellington, Tho hotels are crowded and accommodation difficult to obtain. Troops Of mounted Maoris are patroling the town. The announcement that Tambouriui was not coming up was a great relief to the minds of the owners of local horses.

The Malden Pli>te lies between JNanakia and Princess Mary.

The great race of the meeting, for 100 sovs., will be between Premier and Xittlc Wonder* the latter being a good three-miler and a great favorite in the district. The distance is regarded as too much for Premier. Great interest is taken in the races, which bid fair to be a great success.
