THE THEATRE ROYAL.

The Stephenson-Burford Company repeated '* Cigarette" at the Theatre Royal on Saturday evening. The piece was hardly so well played as on previous representations, although Miss Stephenson and Mr. Burford acquitted themselves admirably. Lord Rockingham might have found a better representative. The part of the Princess Corona was rendered by Miss Howard as well as could be desired. Mr. Hyde 3 played the character of Raike with energy, and Miss Follande made a pretty Willow. PETTERED. Patrons of the Theatre Royal will be presented this evening with a drama entirely new to "Wellington. It is somewhat of the sensational stamp, having been written a few years since for Miss Eanny Josephs—herself an excellent actress —under whose management it was produced at • the Royal Holborn Theatre, London. Those of our readers who happened to be in London a few years ago, will remember the successful run which succeeded the first representation of "Fettered," a drama which accords in every respect with the taste of playgoers nowadays. The scenes principally lie in the city of .London, although Chelsea and the banks of the Thames near Marlow are included. Interesting situations and tableaux are frequent; The management have secured Mr. Massey's services, to give proper scenic effect to the drama, and some excellent new scenery has been painted for it. It is surprising that a piece which has proved sojmccessful in London and America should not have been produced in New Zealand long before this.
