MELBOURNE MARKETS. (From the Arfnts, September 21.) In the import markets this forenoon business showed no activity whatever, and sales were confined to supplying ordinary wants and executing country trade orders. Nothing of a special character was allowed to transpire. Breadstuff’s show no activity whatever. Flour is moving off in bakers’ lota at £l3 to £l3 5a,, bags returned. Wheat is wanted, and ss. 9d. can be got for prime quality, but owing to the paucity of supplies, there is really no room for transaction*. Oats are very firm, and s*. can bo obtained for very poor feeding qualities, while up to ss. 3d. is freely offering for anything like good feeding. Dundee goods are coming into more notice. Cornsacks are in fair request, and sales are making at 10s. 3d. Victorianmade sacks are now being produced by Messrs. Wm. Miller and Co. equal in every respect to imported goods. Woolpacks are inquired for. and sales are making at Ss. 3d. Candles, since the last auction sales, show more firmness, and we cannot now quote under IOJd. for favorite brands, lib. salmon is steady at 11s. to 11s. 3d. for Californian. The demand for currants has slackened again ; holders are still very firm at 4JU3. to srt., but buyers are much less inclined to operate than they were a few days ago. Fencing wire is again somewhat slow. Quotations range from £22 10s. to £23 10s„ and £24 10s. for Nos. 6,7, and S. Quicksilver is moving off for trade requirements at 7s. 6d. Sugars are quiet, and little of special importance is allowed to come before us.; From Galle, a telegram has been received with advices from Mauritius to 4th September, abnut fifteen days’ later than any previous news published. The only vessel which had left for Melbourne with now sugar was the Otago, which brings refining descriptions, and as there was no other vessel loading, no new grocery sugars can reach here now before the middle or near the end of October. A parcel of Tasmanian hops, yearlings, was sold at lOd. In liquids, brandies appear to admit of business. In one instance SO hhds. and 340 quarter-casks Hennessy’s and Martell’a have been placed on private terms, and in another 100 quarter-casks Hennessy’s have been taken up, likewise on terms withheld. Small parcels of Hennessey's case brandies have also been selling at 2Ss. Cd.

The millers have raised the price of flour 10s. per ton during the week. The market is cleared of oats.
