WRECK OF THE P.S. PATERSON.

We regret to learn that there is a fear that the p.s. Paterson has been wrecked iu the Waitara River. On a late voyage tliither, drawing something like nine feet and a half of water, she bumped.in crossing the Bar; and on her last voyage to that river, carrying the last of the railway material for the New Plymouth and Waitara railway, now in course of construction by Messrs. Brogden and Son, she was only loaded to eight feet deep. She sailed from Wellington on Saturday afternoon last, after towing the ship La Hogue to sea. She arrived oif the bar of the Waitara in due course, and when going into the river, in charge of a pilot, she grounded on the spit. She was afterwards got off, and proceeded up the river under easy steam, but meeting a heavy fresh down the river was thrown on the opposite spit. She must have started a number of the rivets, if not broken her plates, for she now lies in smooth water in the river, with the-water up to her decks. The cargo is now being discharged, and it will probably be ascertained in the course of the day whether the vessel is irretrievably injured, or can be repaired and made serviceable again. Her crew are expected to arrive here to-day.
