[Pebss Telegraph Agency.] New Plymouth, Thursday. The steamer Paterson is now lying across the- channel in the river Waitara, the water washing over her decks, A large quantity of her cargo was got out before she drifted into the stream. The Eliza Mary is a wreck. She will be sold by auction to-morrow. The immigrants are comfortably located in the barracks. Auckland, Thursday. At the nomination of a member for the Waitemata, Messrs. Von der Heyde, T. S. Macffarlaue, Rees, and Stouey were proposed. Mr. Stoney retired. Mr. Rees made a bitter attack upon Mr. Macffarlaue, with reference to a handbill which the latter admitted having circulated regarding Rees. One of the most exciting scenes ever -witnessed at an Auckland meeting ensued. Rees continued a slashing attack on Macffarlane, and the latter threatened to strike. A breach of the peace was feared, but was avoided. The show of hands was—Von der Heyde, 26 ; Rees, 23 ; Macffarlane, 7. ‘ A poll was demanded. Mr. Holdship, timber merchant, in conjunction with Mr, Mcllroy, of Canterbury, has purchased the barque Hokalele. Wanganui, Thursday. A stud company has been formed, with a capital of .£15,000. ' The settlers of the district are enthusiastic, and shares are likely to be subscribed at once. The object is the breeding of high-class horses. Negotiations are pending for the purchase of Mr. Walker’s thoroughbred mares. Taukanqa, Thursday. The Opotiki telegraph line is open for business to-day.
