Election for the General Assembly. JV/TR. ROBERT HART has been re- -*•"■ quested by a numerous body of Electors to offer himself as a Candidate to represent the City of Wellington in the House of Representatives of the General Assembly. Having consented, the undermentioned Gentlemen have formed themselves into a Committee (with power to add to their number) to secure his return : — George Moore William Hickson Joseph Masters Charles Mills John King James M'Beth George Hunter John Harding R. J. Duncan George Hart John Yule John Sutherland August 10, 1853.

To the Electors of the City of Wellington.

p ENTLEMEN,— The result of yes*- *-*" terday's Poll having placed me in the honorable position of one of your Representatives in the Provincial Council of this Province, I take the earliest moment to offer you my thanks for the confidence which you have by your votes recorded to me, and to assure you that my hope is to be enabled to Iceep such re • cord without spot or blemish. While I can fearlessly assert that my public conduct hitherto has had but one guiding principle— the public good — it is doubly grateful to my feelings to find so many of my valued fellow colonists, come forward at the time of trial and confirm me in the assertion ; it will, I trust, prove an additional incentive to me to strive to deserve a large share of their good opinions. Your Provincial Council will doubtless be soon called upon to exercise its high functions. I shall go to that Council pledged to no interest, class, or measure, except the general good of all ; and I earnestly trust that you will narrowly watch the conduct of all those to- wfcom you have committed the important duty of aiding in the direction of the public affairs of this province, so that when in the course of events they may again be brought to the bar of public opinion, they may receive at your hands their fair meed of approbation or censure. On your verdict, clearly and fairly expressed,. I shall ever rely. [ am, Gentlemen, Your obedient and" honoured Servant, GEORGE MOORE. Wellington, August lfl r T853.
