To The Editor of the Wellington Independent. Wellington, August 1, 1853.
Sir, — It is said that yonr reporter affirms the correctness of bis report of my speech at the public meeting on Wednesday. There were about two hundred settlers present who can recollect whether the passage complained of is, or is net, a fair statement of what was then said by me, and will form their ovru opinion of his motive or accuracy. _ It is not from any personal desire to be elected, but simply from respect to the gentlemen who signed the requisition to me that I have been at the trouble of correcting the account. I remain, sir, your obedient servant, ROBT. HART.
