Wellington Building Society.

HPHE Monthly Meeting for the payment -*- of Subscriptions will be held on Monday Evening next, at the Mechanics' Institute, at *7 o'clock. Stewards — Messrs. Jambs Wallace and Mr. Holmes. - WILLIAM ALLEN, Manager. July 27, 1853.

Notice.

A PUBLIC MEETING of the Electors of the Province of Wellington is hereby convened for Monday Evening nexC, the Ist August, in the School Room attached to St. John's Church, Johnsonville, for the purpose of discussing questions of importance relative to the coming Elections. WILLIAM BELL, Chairman. Porirua Road, July 28, 1853.

(ADVERTISEMENT.) ~+- , ELECTION OF JOHN WALLACE, Esq. To the Free and Independent Electors . of the City of Wellington. fi ENTLEMEN— You may expect that your privileges, as Electors, will at length be confirmed to you by the issue of Writs, and the nomination of Candidates soliciting your suffrages for the choice of Members to sit in the forthcoming Legislature. As a Candidate for a seat in the Provincial Council at Wellington, I hereby offer myself; — impressed with the conviction, — should you return me by a majority of your votes, — that a conscientious duty would impel me to aid in the enactment of equal laws for all interests, as well as to oppose the introduction of such taxation as might bear disproportionately on those whose families are wholly dependent upon their own exertions for the comforts and necessaries

of life. Having uniformly been the advocate of Free Trade, and an enemy to the Protection of one class of the community at the expense of all others, my aim would constantly be to promote such legislation as would secure to every one the means of acquiring for himself a Freehold by honest industry. With this view, I would give encouragement to the adoption of the" lowest possible amount as the minimum upset price for land ; to the principle of small Allotments ; to the cheapest process of obtaining a Title ; and to the least expensive mode'of Transfer. As the products of Industry — both to the growei and consumer — must generally remain unprofitable in the absence of Roads, my attention to the increase of such means of transit would be constant and unremitting. Since it may be deemed requisite that every one presenting himself to your notice as a Candidate should make some allusion to his political opinions. I may state that my principles are those of prosperity for all, and no oppression :— that is, the Cause of the whole People, and no Class Legislation. I remain, Gentlemen, Your very obedient servant, JOHN WAI LACE. Wellington, June 3, 1853.

Committee. Gsorgb Crawford, Esq., Chairman. Mr. E. G. Osgood Mr. J. H. Wallace Mr. John M'Beth Mr. P. M. Hervey Mr. J. Holmes, sen. Mr. Richd. Jiarry Mr. John Johnson Mr. David Anderson Mr. W. E. Wallace Mr. Joseph lorr Mr. Thos. Waters Mr. Geo. Edwards Mr. Geo. Waters Mr. Thos. Crowther Mr. Smith Fuinass The Committee meet every Tuesday evening, at the Te Aro Hotel, at 7 o'clock. J. M. TAYLOR, Secretary. July 29, 1853.

To the Electors of Wellington.

FELLOW-COLONISTS — Since acceding to the Requisition to allow myself to be nominated as a Candidate for the Representation of the City of Wellington in the Provincial and General Legislative Assemblies, I have on reflection arrived at the conclusion that I could not with propriety accept the appointment in the General Assembly. My ability to attend the meetings would be entirely dependant upon the locality at which they may be held, and I think the interests of the Colony would be best promoted by the election of Candidates whose attendance would not be subject to such a contingency. With regard to the Provincial Council, other duties will not prevent me from acting should you require my services. I have the honor to be, Fell o w- Col oni sts, „.; Your faithful Servant, ROBERT HART. Wellington, July 22, 1853.

.To the Electors of Wellington. f± ENTLEMEN— As a well known advocate for eleven years of Cheap Land — Fixed Prices — Small Allotments — an Absentee Land Tax, to construct roads — and of strict Economy in public expenditure, I most respectfully offer myself a Candidate to represent the City of Wellington in the Provincial Council. ROBERT HOLT CARPENTER. July 16, 1853. j To the £lectoi»of the City of Wellington.

(^.ENTLEMEN— I beg leave to offer myself as a Candidate as one of the seven members to be elected by you to serve in the Provincial Council about to be assembled. In putting myseii forward I refer to my professional career as some guarantee that I will unflinchingly do my duty. Deeds not words is my motto. I state generally that lam an advocate for the rediiced price of land — the Education, of the Labouring Classes — the Amelioration and Employment of the Natives j and any measures that tend to the benefit of the Colony,, haying regard to economy and order. , I have th> honor to be, Gentlemen, '#xmr obedient Servent, ' - JCHN KING. Wellington, June 23th, 1853.
