[From the Government Gazette, June 15.] NOTICE.
Province of Wellington to wit. WHEREAS, a Writ, under the hand of His Excellency Sir George Grey. Knight Commander of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Islands of New Zealand, &c, &c, &c, bearing date the tenth day of June, in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and Fifty-three, and under the public seal of the Islands of New Zealand, aforesaid, hath been directed to me, Henry St. Hill, Esquire, as Resident Magistrate and Principal Returning Officer for the Province of Weilington, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by and from amongst the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, one person to serve as Superintendent of the Province of Wellington. Now, therefore, I, the said Henry St. Hill, Esquire, Resident Magistrate and Principal Returning Officer for the Province of Wellington, do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited Writ, give notice that a Public Meeting of the Electors of the Province of Wellington will be holden at the School House of the Church of England Education Society, situate in Sydneystreet, Wellington, on Saturday, the second (2nd) day of July, next, at Eleven o'clock, in the forenoon, for the purpose of nominating one person to serve as Superintendent for the said Province : and in the event of a Poll being demanded for the candidates, or any of them, such polling shall take place on Saturday, the Sixteenth (16th) day of July next, for the city of Wellington, the Wellington Country District, and the Hutt district, at such School House aforesaid ; for the Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay districts, at the residence of William Mem Smith, Esquire, J.P., at Huangarua, in the valley of the Wairarapa ; and at the residence of Alexander Alexander, Esquire, J.P., at Ahuriri, Hawke's Bay ; and for the Whanganui and Rangitikei districts, at the Resident Magistrate's Court, in the Town of Petre, — the voting to commence at any time after nine o'clock of the said day, and to close at four o'clock in the afternoon of the said day.
