[From Yesterday's Government Gazette ] PROCLAMATION.
By His Excellency Sir George Grey, a Knight Commander of the most Honorable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and' over the Islands of New Zealand, and Vice-Ad-miral of the same, &c, &c.-, &c. WHEREAS,* Her Majesty has been graciously pleased,'** fcetes Patent untTer the Great #eal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, bearing date the thirteenth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and fifty two, to constitute and appoint me, Sir George Grey, Knight Commander of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, to be Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Islands of New Zealand with such powers and authorities as are vested in the Governor of the said Islands by an Act of the 15th and 16th year of Her Majesty's reign, intituled " An Act to grant a Representative Constitution to the Colony of New Zealand," together with {all powers and authorities heretofore vested in me, the said Sir George Grey, as Governor-in-Chief in and over the Islands of New Zealand, and as Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Provinces of New Ulster and New Munster, so far as the samejare not repugnant to, nor would prevent or interfere with the opera, tion of the said recited Act, and also together with all powers and authorities by the said Letters Patent conferred. Now I, Sir George Grey, do hereby proclaim and declare this Her Majesty's pleasure, and that I have this day assumed the powers and authorities vested in me by virtue of the said Letters Patent. Given under my Hand and issued under the Public Seal of the Islands of New Zealand, at Government House, at Wellington, in the Province of Wellington, in the Islands aforesaid, this Seventh Day of March, in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and* Fifty Three.
