NELSON. [From the Nelson Examiner, December 25.]
Election of Superintendent. — We understand that requisitions are handing about, inviting E. W. Stafford, Esq., andJ. W. Saxton, Esq., to offer themselves as candidates for the office of Superintendent for this Province. The name 3 of other gentlemen have also been mentioned as suitable to fill the office, but we are not aware *of any steps being taken to bring forward any besides those we have named. The Trust Funds. — It is satisfactory to be able to state that the Treasury has at length ! agreed to advance, on account of our Trust Funds, the sum of £20,000. This is without prejudice to any further balance, but simply on account. Although this amount is very short of what we believe to be our due, we cannot be insensible to the benefits which even this sum may be made to confer upon the settlement.
