New Zealand Spectator, AND COOK’S STRAIT GUARDIAN. Saturday, October 18, 1851.
y )CE our l ast publication arrivals from ■ptelton and Auckland have put us in pos■®ion of papers from these settlements. I. are indebted to the kindness of a friend the Lyttelton Times of October the 11th, r Own copy, from some mistake not havreached us), and have extracted from the imns of our contemporary an interesting unary of the latest English news to June t> received by the Midlothian, which arat Lyttelton on the Sth October, after ar Ssa S e of 118 days. There does not apto be any local news of interest. ®y the Simlah we have received Auckland to Ist October, but they contain no jV ° l° ca l interest. A rumour was cur- ■ ot the discovery of gold at Ilokianga,
but not much reliance was placed on the report ; we have extracted from the Southern Cross the particulars of this alleged discovery. H.M. schooner Pandora arrived at Auckland, from Sydney vid Monganui and Wangarei, September 17th; she will be employed. in completing the surveys of the coast of New Zealand. The Municipal Corporation Charter was exciting some discussion at Auckland, but appeared to be favourably received. The New Zealander contains some temperate and sensible observations in answer to the objections of the Southern Cross. The elections were to take place on the 18th November. The SimlahAeft Auckland the 2nd October, calling at New Plymouth on her way to Wellington. She left New Plymouth on Monday the 13th inst. She has several passengers both cabin and steerage, some of whom are for this Settlement.
