By the overland mail information has been received of the loss of the John Whitely, schooner, at New Plymouth, a trader between that settlement and Manukau, on the 31st March. The wind was off shore, and as she arrived in the roadstead too late in the night to anchor, she was standing off and on till daylight, but owing to her going to windward faster than allowance was made for, she struck on the Puketapu reef about 1 o clock, a.m., and became a total wreck. She had a full cargo for New Plymouth, which it is believed will be saved. Providentially all hands on board were saved.
