The following answer has been forwarded by Sir George Grey 7 to the Memorial, published in our last number, from the settlers in the Hutt district Government House, Wellington, 12th February, ISSI. Gentlemen, —I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of the Memorial you have addressed to me, expressive of your desire tn repudiate any particination in the Public. Meeting held at Wellington on the subject of the proposed Constitution, and expressing generally your confidence in my administration of the affairs of this country. It was very gratifying to me to receive such a proof of the regard and esteem of the inhabitants of a district, in whose welfare I have always taken a most lively interest. This has been heightened by the proofs of industry, frugality, and cheerful contentment which are so visible thougbout the whole of the fertile valley of the Hutt. I trust that, for the future, my efforts to promote your prosperity mal be blessed with as much success as heretofore, you may at least rely upon this, that 1 will continue to make every exertion in my power to increase and promote the prosperity and comfort which you now enjoy.

I have the honor to be, Gentlemen, Your most obedient humble servant, (Signed) G. Grey. To Alfred Ludlam, Esq., J.P._, and the other Gentlemen signing the Memorial.
