THURSDAY, Nov. Bth.

The two horses in this race were equally matched, and the race proved one of the most interesting and closely contested of the whole jineeting. Several private matches were got up in the course of the day to which were added the amusements of rural sports. In the afternoon there was a canoe race on the river between two canoes paddled in the maori style, one manned by six Englishmen the other by eight maories. The distance was nearly a mile, the canoes starting from Pu- [ tiki pa and coming in at Messrs. Taylor & Watt's wharf. This was a beautiful race, and was won by a canoe's length by the Englishmen to the chagrin of the natives. The beach was crowded with spectators, including the natives of the different pas, who were deeply interested in the result of the race. This concluded the sports, which, owing to the excellent arrangements made by the Stewards and the Judge, went off with great spirit and to the general satisfaction of those present. The weather during the three days was very fine, and fortunately no accident of any kind occurred to mar the general enjoyment.
