DEFEAT OF SHERE SINGH. [From the Calcutta Englishman, March 3.]

We have just received a letter from Lahore announcing the complete rout of the Sikhs ou thp 21st, with very trifling loss to our army. "The battle commenced at half- past three on the morning of the /21st. Oar guns were kept playing on the enemy for three hours. The attack was then ordered, and appears to have been successful at every point. Thirty of the enemy's guns were taken, also his camp and baggagp, and he was completely routed. The cavalry were still in pursuit at 9 p.m. The enemy fled towards the Jhelum, and it is supposed will make for Attock. Our loss has been very s-mall; it is said no more than 200 killed and wounded. 'The 10.-s of the Sikhs is not said to be very great, as they soon took to their heels. r% The only officer whose name is mentioned as killed, is- Captain Anderson of the artillery. We understand that the Commander-in-Chief's despatches have not jiet arrived. They will be looked for with much eagerness. It is to be hoped that there will be no more bard fighting-unless the Dust dares to make a stand.
