CROWN GRANTS FOR THE PORT NICHOLSON AND PORERUA DISTRICTS. To the Editor of the New Zealand Spectator.

28th Januan, 1848. "Sir, — -I have to request you to insert for public information in the next number of your paper the accompanying very satisfactory communication from his Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor, in respect to the Crown Grants to the New Zealand Company of land in this and the Porerua districts. I am, Sir, Your Obedient humble servant, W. Wakepield, Principal Agent of the .New Zealand Company.

Government House, 27th January, 1848 Sir, — T have much pleasure in forwarding to you the Crown Grants for the districts of Port Nicholson and of Porerua, duly executed by his Excellency the Governor-in-Chief. 1 have the honor to be, Sir, Your obedient humble servant, (Signed) Edwd. John Eyre. Colonel W. Wakefield, Principal Agent of the New Zealand Company, Wellington.

(Copy.) Victoria, hy the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, and so forth. To All to whom these presents shall come Greeting. WHEREAS it hath been made to appear to us that the New Zealand Company hath acquired from certain Aboriginal natives in the Province of New Munster, in the colony of New Zealand, entitled in that behalf, a full and valid cession of all the rights of such Aboriginal natives to the lands hereinafter particularly described (subject to the reservations hereinafter made). Now know ye, that we of our certain knowledge and special grace, for us our heirs and successors Do hereby Grant unto the said New Zealand Company their successors and assigns, All that piece or parcel of land situ- . ate in the district of Port Nicholson or Wanganui Atara, in the Province of New Munster, in the colony of New Zealand, and extending along the sea coast from Cape Turakirai to a point about a mile ncrth of the Kia Kia, thence along a dotted line running irregularly to and along the River Hutt, thence to the Turakirai range and along the crest of that range to Cape Turakirai, and which piece or parcel of land is estimated to contain two huodred and nine thousand two hundred and forty seven acres or thereabouts, and is with the boundaries thereof more particularly delineated in the plan thereof attached to these presents, Together with all minerals and forests thereupon being, and Together with all appurtenances to the said piece of land or any part thereof belonging or in anywise apper-

1 1 taining, excepting and always reserved out of this present Grant, the reserves and exceptions, all of which reserves and exceptions with their boundaries and abuttals are particularly delineated and described in the said plan and in the plan of the town of Wellington and in the schedules of the said plans attached hereto ; To hold the said piece or parcel of ground and premises with their and every of their appurtenances except as aforesaid, unto the said New Zealand Company their successors and assigns for ever. In testimony whereof we have caused this our Grant to be sealed with the Seal of our said Territory. Witness our trusty and well-beloved George Grey, Esquire, Governor-in-Cbief of our said Territory and its dependencies at Wellington, in New Zealand aforesaid, the twenty-seventh day of January, in the eleventh year of our reign and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-eight. In testimony whereof we have caused this our Grant to be sealed with the Seal of our said Territory. Witness out trusty and well-beloved George Grey, Esquire, Governor-in-Chief of our said Territory and its dependencies at Wellington, in New Zealand aforesaid, this twenty-seventh day of Jauuary, in the eleventh year of our reign and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-eight.
