To the Editor of the New Zealand! Spectator. < WeHlngltfft,*lf& January; 1848.' Sir, — As one of the original, and perhaps, one of the longest tried* of your Subscribers, it was with extreme regret 1 read the " Communicated" paragraph in your paper of last Saturday, bi'ingnig into notice the amount of the subscription • given to the Anniversary sports at Te Aro this 1 year by th> Principal Agent of 1 the New Zealand Company. , Your correspondent has a perfect right to 1 bring into discussion the public acts of that officer, but what on earth he has to do with the; apportionment of his private purse, I am at,a^, loss to conceive ! , Is it because he has given three guineas (b"e- ? sides his subscription to the formation 'of the course) to the forthcoming races at Burnham Water, and only one to those at Te Aro, that your amiable correspondent's ire has been roused ? I am really, Sir, at a loss which to appreciate the more highly — the good breeding of your correspondent, or your own good tact and tatte in admitting in the columns of your paper the latter part of the communication of which I now complain. I am, Sir, Yours, An Old Subscriber.
