Colonel Sir Richard Doherty has been appointed Inspecting Field officer of the London Recruiting district, in succession to Colonel (now Major-General) Pitt ; Colonel Baumgardt, from the Queen's Royals, replaces the late Lord John Somerset at Bristol ; Colonel Bush, at present of the Ist West India Regiment, is to be Inspecting Field Officer at Leeds ; and Lieut nant-Colonel James Campbell, on the unattached half-pay, is to be posted in the same capacity at Coventry. Colonel R. C. Mansel succeeds to the Deputy Quarter Master Generalship in Ireland ; and Brevet Lieutenant- Colonel F. A. M. Fraser has been selected tor that appointment in Canada. — United Service Gazette. Colonel James Simpson, an old Waterloo officer, will succeed Major-General Sir T. Wiltshire in the command of Chatham garrison The appointment will take place on the Ist of January. — Kentish Observer. A military board having been recently appointed, by his Grace the Duke of Wellington, Commander-in-Chief of the Forces, to consider the present allowances of fuel to the army, and the issues having been considered insufficient, the War-office lias ordered that the present quantity of fuel shall be increased onethird. — Globe, December 11.
