ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE. Tenders For Barracks At Porirua. To the Editor of the New Zealand Spectator.

Sir,— Permit me, through the medium of your valuable journal, to enquire thereason why the "Plans and Specifications" for the above buildingwere not ready on the 11th, as advertized? It is to be hoped there is no official jobbing in this affair, that it is not going to be another magazine job to favor an official pet. It is generally believed that a certain official pet had intimation of this building before public notice was given of its erection, and that he visited Porirua to inspect the giound, &c., and it is "just possible " that he may at this time possess knowledge of the plans and specifications from the same source as he acquired his other information, and I would take the liberty with your permission of warning a certain official that his movements are closely watched, and that the public are determined to expose any thing in the shape of jobbing that may appear. It will be only fair as the plans and specifications are not before the public, to extend the time for receiving the tenders, until parties can examine the ground in connection with the plans, &c, and not as in the case of the road contract, oblige tenders to be given in without giving time to do this. — I am, your obedient servant, Limeburrner.
