ORIGINAL POETRY.

" Oh! where shall 1 bury my poor dog Tray V The Ingoldsby Legends. What shall be done with his Honor, I pray, Now that his place is passing away ? For the last two years, I venture to say, Ever since Fitzroy here held sway, With nothing to do, and plenty of pay, Has he sported his buttons of brass so gay, And rode on his gallant charger grey, ' The whole of his life one long holiday' : — But the stereotyp'd smile is fading away, Oh ! what shall be done with his Honor, I pray ? Rangihaeata's naughty tricks Have put B. B. in a terrible fix, He turns to the right, he turns to the left, Perplex'd, confus'd, of sense bereft, And much he grieves that office should be Clogg'd with responsibility. So narrow is his district grown, That Martial Law has brought it down Within the limits of the Town, And he's now — " His Honor of Wellington." Hard is the task, he finds, to please These settlers at th' Antipodes, And he fain would wish again to be In his Island in th' JEgean Sea,* From further care of Maoris free, And not less than his present salary. It matters not what other place His smiles and buttons next may grace, Once from his present post, 'tis plain, We should ne'er wish to see " His Honor" again.

♦ His Honor vras formerly Resident of Naxoa.
