WANGANUI.
By the Katkerine Johnstone our correspondent informs us that " the natives of that district are very well disposed and are anxiously expecting the arrival of the Governor. They have heard of the submission of Heki, and the number of soldiers and men of war under the command of his Excellency, and speak of him as the " Kawana nui," and do not seem to doubt his power. "Our settlers fervently hope that early measures will be taken to put them in possession of their 'ands, and that a small military force will be established here to insure them and that portion of the natives who are peaceably disposed the protection so much needed and desired by both parties. It is also to be hoped that the overland mail will be reestablished, as this can be done at a trifling expence. The amount lately saved by withdrawing the salary of the Police Magistrate would more than defray the charge."
