ARRIVAL OF GOVERNOR GREY AT AUCKLAND!!! [From the New Zealander.]
His Excellency the new Governor, as announced in our last, arrived in tiiis harbour on Friday the 14th inst., and on Saturday was issued the following CIRCULAR TO HEADS OF DEPARTMENT*. Colonial Secretary* Office, Auckland, 15/ A November, 1845. Hit Excellency Governor (irey v ill land at eleven o'clock on Tuesday the \%tk instant, under salutes from the shipping and the battery. The Memotr* of Council and Head* qf Public
Department* will receive hit Excellency at tAt Landing Place in Official Bay. The Lieutenant. CoUnei Commanding the Troopi in Auckland, will Mtation a guard of honor at the Landing Place, to attend hit Excellency, who will be escorted to ffovernment- house by all persons present. After the Governor and the principal Civil Authorities are sworn into Office, a Lewe will be held — at which gentlemen will be'prestnttd to hit Excellency. j Ladiet tuill be received by Mrs. Grey — during the administration of the Oatfts of Office. By command, ANDREW SINCLAIR, Colonial Secretary. On Tuesday rooming, accordingly, his Excellency Governor Grey landed fromH.E.I.C. sloop of war Efphinstone^ under salutes from H.M. ships North Star and Race Horse, as well as the Elfjhinstone. A guard of honor, of the 96th regt. was stationed at the lauding-place in Official Bay. On landing his Excellency was received by the Colonial Secretary, the Attorney-Gene-ral, the Members of Council, the Heads of Departments, the Military and Naval Officers, &c. ' He proceeded to Government-house, walk- ' ing between the Attorney-General and the Colonial Secretary, ' escorted by the" troops and the numerous persons assembled together, with many chiefs and natives of the surronnding districts. Our loyal ally, Nene, having arrived fconvthe Bay in the North St.tr, was present, in British naval captain's unifoim, and wore the sword given to him by Governor Hobson. On arrival at Government-house, the ceremony of being sworn into office was performed — the new Governor, and all the other authorities, taking the usual oaths in public, in front of the house, on the lawn, encircled by the military and assembled populace. His Excellency then retired to the house, and received the Military and Naval officers, the Judge, Attorney -General, Members of Council, &c. Afterwards he held a general Levee, at which was presented most of the residents in Auckland and neighbourhood. On Wednesday, a Government Gazette 1- xtraordinary was issued, in which was put forth the following Proclamation. By his Excellency George Gret, Esquire, Governor and Commander- in-Chief of Her Majesty's Province of South Australia, and Lieutenant-Governor and Corny mander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand, and its Dependencies, and Vice-Adtniral of ~tht same, &c, &c, &c. Whereas, Her Majesty lias been graciouslypleased, by a Warrant under the Royal Signet and Sign Manual, bearing date the 21st day of June, in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-five, to constitute and appoint me, George Grey, Esquire, to be Lieutenant- Governor of Her Majesty's Colony; of New Zealand, with such powers and autho- '* rities, and according to such directions as are expressed in Her Majesty's Letters Patent, under the Great Seal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, bearing date at Westminster, the sixteenth day of November, 1840; and Her Majesty did require and command all Officers and Ministers, and all others whom it may concern, to take due notice, of Her Majesty's said Warrant, and to give their ready obedience accordingly. Now, therefore, I, George Grey, do hereby proclaim and declare, that I have, this day, taken the prescribed Oaths, and assumed the administration of the Government, accordingly; ■■ and I hereby call upon the inhabitants of the colony, to be aiding and assisting me therein. Given under my hand, and under the Public Seal of the Colony, at Government House, Auckland, this eighteenth [L.S.]day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred aud forty-five.
